The breakfast was excellent if a little pricey. The choice was extensive and very welcome. The staff were responsive apart from a rather sad figure making the omelettes.
The price could’ve been better. The staff at check-in couldn’t find my reservation number and initially were not very friendly. But it passed when they found out. I was a platinum level Fairmont client

Great location on Copacabana Beach and within walking distance of Ipanema Beach. Spectacular views from the restaurant, bar, pool area, and ocean-facing rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Access to beach clubs at Copacabana and Ipanema adds to the experience. Highly recommend.

Excellent location. Very nice facility. Beautiful view. Breakfast was nice. They’re happy hour offerings were also very good.
Despite paying the highest amount and the bestsuite, initially, we were given a room with a view of other people‘s balcony and a small edge, looking out onto the water when it was supposed to be an ocean view room. After complaining, we were given a lower floor, but with a better view.The staff did try to accommodate us, but appeared a bit unhelpful. Also, despite the grandiosity as publicized on the website, the lobby is quite underwhelming and somewhat bizarrely put on the fourth floor. We have taken the junior suite which is a one bedroom place and still their “rules “allowed for only two people. So we had to take another room for our kids. Again these rules appear to be silly and may not be a Hotel rule, but it is frustrating to see.

For the price of the room, hotel would definitely need a refresh to match the 5* standards but this probably applies to all hotels on Copacabana/Ipanema due to the age of the buildings.

Disappointing
The Fairmont Rio has a beautiful hotel with comfortable beds, and certain guest service people, such as Jesus, made the stay pleasant.
The staff—especially by the pool—came across as condescending, and despite multiple requests, no one addressed the unpleasant sewage smell in our bathroom.

Breakfast is very good, beautiful buffet.
Rio has a lot of humidity and we understood that but the rooms smelt a lot of humidity, the bed sheets felt wet all the time. The rooms were not big enough.

Had a great stay in Rio! Beautiful hotel, very friendly staff. Loved the pool area, always lots going on and incredible views.
Nothing open before 6am, so if you are leaving for a tour theres no coffee/food.
