The atmosphere of the hotel. Staff were very responsive to any requests I made. Blankets were brought up quick after I reported that I was cold in my room.
Hotel was cold in September with no chance of heating being turned on. Gym doesn't open until 8am, very strange comparatively to other major hotels.

Everything. All staff were professional,courteous and efficient,bar one (see separate note)The room was very comfortable,clean and spacious. Bedding was luxurious.. Restaurant experience was perfect with service,food and ambience exceptional.Breakfast was a pleasure,beginning with champagne,leading on to vast selection of options meaning we were spoilt for choice. Spa area was very relaxing with plenty of options around the pool. Location was perfect for getting to other places by bus and leading to hikes up the surrounding hills. All in all,the perfect stay. We booked this as a special birthday treat and it did not disappoint. An experience that will live long in the memory.
Nothing. The only thing to be negative about as alluded to in the likes above, was a member of staff doubting our validity as a resident when booking dinner and even when assured we were bona fide guests making us feel a tad uncomfortable.

only thing that was disaponting was the dinner in the restaurant & drinks i expected drinks to be not pree ready i had no option on asking for no sour items and i asked for a irish coffe after dinner that they could not do becouse they dont have cream ( strange in a restaurant 5 star hotel ) servis was good though

This hotel does live up to the Grandhotel name. It is a luxury hotel and therefore not inexpensive, but actually a good bargain for the level of excellence it provides. Located at the South end of the pedestrian area in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), across from the Tepl River, it is a great walking city. Many restaurants to choose from, as well as shopping. An overall relaxing visit.

Comfortable bed, location
We came 2 hours earlier and asked for an early check in. The receptionist said it wasn't possible and to return at 14:00 to get a key, although we managed to do all the formalities earlier. But when we came back at 14:00, we were 6th in line and had to wait all the people to do all the check in formalities just to get our key. I think that is not appropriate for a 5* hotel. Just let your guests into the rooms if rooms are ready, like every normal hotel. Also, in the room there is a possibility to order another pillow, I just had to call the reception. To my surprise, they didn't bring extra pillows untill 19:00. I called at 14:30. Breakfast was mediocre and the staff wasn't trained enough...the tables left unclean, food on the floor an no-one picked it up, waitresses loudly talking to each other right next to the guest, while the guest was trying to eat (one waitress was standing on my left side and the other on my right side, my small breakfast table was between them).
The room doesn't have air conditioning, although the night was pretty fresh (thankfully). Also, the rooms were pretty dull...at least put some old pictures of Karlovy Vary on the walls of the rooms, so they don't feel like you're in a hospital. The bed was quite comfortable though and bathroom was large and clean. Our room was facing the woods, which I didn't mind, but I did mind the dirt and trash behind the hotel which was clearly visible from our balcony. I would expect his in a 2* hotel.
