Upon arrival, I was suspicious to discover the man working on reception took us out the front door of the hotel and into an external "apartment", we had been "upgraded" to a "long-stay apartment", I had paid for a twin room...in the hotel.
What we were actually taken to is what I can only assume is staff accomodation. The room provided was entirely unsuitable and bore no resemblance to the standard of accommodation advertised or expected by The Iveagh Garden Hotel. There were cigarette marks on the carpet, ripped curtains, ripped beds.
They quite clearly over-booked the hotel and thought it was acceptable to charge €242 a night and send us to a DISGUSTING apartment which was clearly never intended for paying guests.
I have pictures which I will attach, I didnt take many as I was so in shock and embarrassed as I was treating my friend who must have thought I paid for this awful accomodation. We didnt even go upstairs in the apartment as we also honestly felt unsafe. When we immediately went back to reception and said this was unacceptable then he said he it would take some time to organise THE ROOM I PAID FOR.
The payment was taken from my card 5 days in advance, and it was a Saturday so I felt we had no choice but to stay. The twin room we eventually received was fine, nothing more than basic.
Can you imagine if I or anyone else had paid on behalf of a friend or loved one and they were sent to smelly, ripped curtain, ripped bed accomodation. I'm still just in shock quite honestly.
PLEASE AVOID staying here. There are so many better places to stay within the same price bracket and location, I will never return.

Excellent location, friendly staff, lovely modern room. There is a lovely bar and eating area. Unfortunately we didn't use a lot of the facilities but overall stay was very good.
Cocktails were terrible. So bad that we didn't have to pay which at least was a good gesture by the hotel.
