I think most areas are not well maintained in terms of Hygiene and cleanliness. The building looks unsafe.

Wonderful
A large spacious city centre hostel with lots of amenities. Pizza, salad etc available at the bar. Nice quirky feel to it.

Disappointing
Location is great. Staff is nice. The reception and bar is cool. Breakfast (2000ISK) is okay. Pizzas (2000ISK) are freshly made.
Cleanliness. The corridor smells horrible because of cooking in the kitchen and there is absolutely no exhaust/ventillation. The rooms are dirty (almost never cleaned?) and smells funny. The washrooms are a hard pass as well.

Great location in the center of Reykjavik. The rooms are clean and the beds quite comfortable. Every floor has a good amount of private bathrooms which is nice and theyre usually pretty clean.
Having a bit more ventilation in the rooms would be great and the bathrooms could use a mat or mop for the amount of water that collects after someone showers.

Kex Hostel is amazingly designed for short-stays, one-night-stops or just a night out with friends. I loved the interiors, so cozy and peculiar. Definitely a nice place to stay!
Washrooms were not that clean, but I guess it's part of the game if you travel in hostels!

Everything was so perfect, clean, the staff was amazing and helpful. The location is great, beds are so comfortable and curtains on them is a big plus! Ground floor has a bar, a terrace and it's not loud if you want to sleep. I will definitely stay here again when I come to Iceland!
