Concierge staff good.
Reception staff slow, and hopeless when presented with a problem.
Locked out of room and when my colleague was at reception asked for my room key they wouldn't give him it. Even though I was on the. Phone to them authorising this.
They wouldn't send a member of staff up with a key as they had no one available but when I went down to lobby they had 3 behind reception doing nothing and 2 staff stood by lifts chatting.
No guests in lobby.
Rubbish service.
The concierge / door staff/ valet parking guys were excellent.
When trying to check out there were 3 staff 1 a trainee and only 1 dealing with guests checking out.
Seeing a queue of 5 groups trying to check out no one made any effort to pace up or jump in and assist. So we all had to stand and listen while the 2 staff checking in one group of arrivals continued her waffle about the hotel etc even though she had given the keys out to the group checking in.
There is no sample menu or information in the rooms to help make a decision about what restaurant to book So just the names and when booking the staff couldn't adequately describe the type of food served.
Restaurants fully booked during our stay. So we ate out.
Bathrooms not good. Shower above bath and not easy to access or exit safely. Very slippery floor and no safety mat in Bath.
The toiletries and accessories were very few and cheap, not what one would expect of a 5 star hotel . Looks like the accountants have cut back on consumables.
I make these genuine observations because this is a lovely old hotel that I really like to stay in.
Shame that standards are slipping.

The front door men were amazing and helpful. Front desk was good too.
The restaurant Prince. The steak was suppose to be rib eye and fillet. They were very thin for the amount they charged and way over cooked. The waiter we had the second day was terrible. We had to get his attention each time. His service was terrible. He looked like he didnt want to be there.
