Swan Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire - England, HG1 2SR, United Kingdom
Surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with private bathrooms and on-site car parking. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town center, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

It is a very interesting place to stay and an enjoyable experience to be there. The hotel has a lot of atmosphere and they have managed to retain the character while giving the hotel a necessary contemporary style that is appealing and comfortable. The fixtures and fittings are mostly stylish and in good order, with the older features retained and clear to see such as the revolving doors, cornicing and staircases, mixed with luxurious contemporary carpets and seating, so it does not look tired or dated and depressing. There was plenty atmosphere and good offers at the bar. There were ample fresh options at breakfast and the area is close to the town centre in a lovely area, and surrounded by a garden. There were a lot of staff that were friendly and approachable.
I think the parking was too expensive- as a guest this should be free. A couple of older pieces of furniture were in the bedroom that looked dated and dreary and need updated with imaginative upcycling. There could be some magazine or newspapers there for guests to use. Shame there is no pool.

Dining room is fabulous - just there for breakfast. Only buffet options which surprised me as I had seen a menu online. Nice coffee.
My single room didn't quite match the shiny picture on the website but it had all the advertised amenities.

Wonderful
I booked 3 single rooms. They were on the top floor so had one sloping attic wall but inside were just fine - clean and tidy with good sized bathrooms. + Hot water was rapid - so showers/baths were easy. + The corridor was quiet at night + the wifi internet was good + there was a kettle and kit for making tea and coffee in each room + there was a lift to the floor - and no stairs for taking luggage in and out - and luggage holders in the room for packing/unpacking. A big thank you to the staff - one of the party is visually impaired and clearly the staff training has been good as they had plans in place to help evacuate him in case of trouble. The bar and restaurant is good - and definitely book the breakfast! If you want to eat out there are more than half a dozen places inside 5 minutes walk. Location is good - either for the conference centre or the sights in Harrogate, as it is just over a minute's walk to the main park, and about 5 minutes to the iconic "Betty's Tea Rooms". I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others.
Nothing - for the money this was perfect.
