About

The Jordanian capital Amman is located in the northern part of Jordan and is the gateway into the country and sits in what is considered part of the Holy land. Amman is one of the largest cities in the Middle East by population, it is also a deeply historic city; everywhere you look you can see traces of the many civilisation that left their mark on this sprawling metropolis of 4 million people; from the beautifully preserved Roman Amphitheatre to the Citadel overlooking the city. Amman was known as “Philadelphia” during its period under the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans. The Jordan Museum with its rich historical collection, the impressive King Abdullah I mosque or simply getting lost in the Souq’s (Markets) of the city selling spices, fresh produce or any range of goods makes for an exciting was to spend your time in Amman. The famous “Rainbow street” offers some world class Restaurants and modern, funky shops and is a favourite for foreigners and locals alike in the evening. Amman makes for a great base to explore other historical places in the vicinity; such as for example the most important, well preserved Roman cities in the Middle East: Jerash a mere 1 hour’s drive from the capital.

Getting to and from Amman:

The modern and well-served Queen Alia International airport is located 35 kilometres from the city center. Traffic can be very bad throughout the day, as congestion is a problem, so plan your trip carefully allowing approx. 1-hour journey time and ensuring you arrive at the airport with plenty of time to clear security as this can also take time. Taxis are the best way to reach Amman. Ride sharing apps such as “Uber” and the Middle East equivalent “Careem” are available and work and cost approximately 17 Jordanian dinars from the airport. Alternatively, you can arrange a transfer through a reputable transfer company to pick you up at the airport with a named driver, either alone or making other stops with other passengers or flag a normal city taxi which are located outside the arrivals terminal building. The fare should always be agreed in advance with the driver and passengers are advised to make sure the taxi meter is running and not accept rides from unlicensed rivers who seek to pick up passengers at arrivals.
