Split is a beautiful Croatian coastal town located along the Adriatic Sea. It is a historic city, having been founded more than 2,000 years ago as a Greek colony. Around half of Split's Old Town is made up of a 4th century structure known as Diocletian's Palace, originally constructed as an emperor's home and military garrison and today containing homes, shops and restaurants. There are a number of other Roman ruins throughout the town. With 2,500 hours of sunlight per year, the beaches are excellent for swimming and sunbathing. The city has a warm Mediterranean climate although it may get a day or so of light snowfall in the winter.

Getting to and from Split

Split Airport is about 20 km from Split. Pleso Transport Company runs a shuttle bus to the city center. Bus 37 runs roughly every half hour from the airport, but it does not go all the way to the city center and a transfer is necessary. Another option is a taxi which takes around half an hour.
